Freight delivery is a shipping service offered for merchandise shipped from business to business when an item/items packaged dimensions that are outside of the standard UPS Ground or Fed Ex Ground size limits, or the weight of the shipment exceeds 150 LBS. Freight delivery is also a standard shipping service for fragile items including any displays with glass components.

Freight delivery service can also be offered for residential deliveries. However, additional rates will apply for residential locations in addition to the basic zip code to zip code rate - this surcharge is usually in the region of $150 -$200 depending on the delivery address. Rural areas and certain central city addresses may incur the higher rate.

Freight shipments of merchandise are secured to a 4ft square and sometimes larger size pallet for transported from terminal to terminal until the shipment reaches the local terminal nearest the final destination - this process can take between 5-10 days.

When your freight shipment arrives, it is important to inspect the shipment thoroughly before you accept the merchandise. Only sign the drivers paperwork if no dents, nicks or tears in the packaging are visible. Any damages reported after the fact will not be covered for replacement. If a shipment does arrive damaged, even if part of the it is undamaged, do not remove any portion of delivery associated with the damaged item. It must be sent back in its entirety or, once again, you will not be covered for replacement. Freight companies operate within very strict policy guidelines and without all items being returned for assessment it is impossible to validate a damage claim. Failure to comply with these conditions will leave you, the consignee, without replacement coverage.

So, bottom line, don't accept box 1 if box 2 is damaged. The entire damaged display and its associated boxes must be sent back. For example, do not accept and unload the shelves and doors of a self-assembly display case if the glass or side panels are damaged. Other items on a pallet that are not part of the damaged unit, may be accepted and signed for but be careful not to sign for the items you need to return for replacement. It is still essential to write the word "Damaged" on the driver's paperwork and to send the damaged items back with the driver.
