Use Window Displays to Increase Foot Traffic
As a retailer, your window display is one of the best ways to attract new customers. Think of your display as a form of visual marketing that you can quickly update to match seasonal trends, promotions, and changing customer interests. To maximize the effectiveness of your retail window display, keep the following tips in mind.
Create a Story With Your Display
Instead of grouping random products together, use your merchandise to tell a story. Around Valentine’s Day, for example, shoppers are more likely to notice a display built around a theme like romance or mending a broken heart instead of a collection of unrelated pink and red products.
If you are unsure where to start, choose a simple theme first. Then build your display around that concept. Story-driven displays create emotion and help customers connect with your products.
Design Around Eye Level
Not every part of a window display receives the same amount of attention. Place the most important products or visual elements at eye level whenever possible. This positioning naturally draws attention from people walking by your storefront.
To determine the correct placement, have one employee stand outside the window while another marks eye level from inside the store. Arrange your display so the key products sit within that viewing zone.
Remember to consider your audience. If you sell children’s clothing or toys, include products at both adult and child eye levels to appeal to parents and kids alike.
Avoid Cluttered Window Displays
Too many items in one display can overwhelm shoppers and reduce the impact of your merchandise. Cluttered retail displays may also give the impression of poor organization or lower product quality.
Instead, keep the space clean and organized. Focus on a few strong visual elements that clearly communicate your message and showcase featured products.
Update Displays Regularly
Successful retailers refresh their window displays often. Regular updates help keep your storefront looking active and encourage repeat foot traffic.
You do not always need a complete redesign. Small changes can still make a big difference. Try swapping featured products, updating signage, or changing props and graphics throughout the season.
When customers notice that your display changes frequently, they are more likely to stop and see what is new inside your store.
